Big Brothers Big Sisters is a nationally recognized one-to-one mentoring program and has over 600 agencies serving children between the ages of 5-18 nationwide. Citrus County BBBS is a part of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Pinellas County, Inc. serving Citrus, Hernando and Pinellas County. As of August 2008 we have over 125 matches in Citrus County. We also have a local leadership council which advises our Citrus County operation and works as representatives to the Citrus community. We currently employ four positions, including our Senior Match Manager, Jennifer Grillo who oversees the staff and programs in Citrus County as well as our community matches, a site-based manager who works at our mentoring sites in partnership with Citrus County schools, recruits and supports the matches, an office staff who handle incoming applicants and our Community Outreach Manager, Sheree Monroe who is responsible for partnering with local corporations, organizations and individuals to support the volunteer and financial needs of the program. The mission is to help children reach their potential through one-to-one mentoring relationships. There is no charge to the participants in the program and it cost about $1000 annually to professionally support the match with degreed staff. The outcomes are phenomenal as children improve in competence, confidence and caring in school, home and social relationships. For information on getting involved, you may contact our office at 352-344-0400 or check out our website at www.bbbspc.org. |
Be a friend. Be a mentor. Just be there. Big Brothers Big Sisters is seeking volunteers to be matched with the children currently on the waiting list. No special skills are required to become a mentor; just a caring attitude and 4-5 hours a month of quality one-to-one time spent together. Whether you enjoy playing sports or watching movies, painting or cooking, the park or the beach, you will be matched with a child that you’ll have fun with and shares your interests. Volunteers may participate in either the community-based or site-based program. For more information about the programs and to find out how you can become a Big Brother, Big Sister, or Big Couple, please call 352-344-0400 or visit www.bbbspc.org. |
Big Couples Program A Big Couple program provides a unique opportunity for married couples. It's a community-based match very similar to that of the one-to-one program, except that the married couples are matched together with one Little Brother. They still meet with their Little at his house and then go participate in activities, but the Big Couple program provides a woman and her spouse with some flexibility. They can hang out with a Little as a couple, that's great. Or if one spouse is particularly busy one week, then the other can hang with the Little individually. The Little benefits not only from adding two new caring people into his life, but he also gets to see first-hand how two adults interact in a healthy, loving relationship. The Big Couple program is perfect for any married couple, but particularly for the younger married couples or the "empty nesters" with grown children. |
